The Hal Leonard series is a great start for any instrument and they have a wide range of books for various different musical instruments. You can find a book for pretty much any instrument within their range of books.

We have in particular enjoyed the guitar method book. We have used for different types of guitars, such as the electric guitar and the classical guitar, with success. Students love the songs and exercises included in it and they have all learn a wide variety of chords and notes through it.
