Country music is a unique genre in the sense that country music songs always consist of deep lyrics and stories. There is always a message in a song in a meaningful way and lyrics are often even more important than the melody of the song.

If you have any students who are good with poetry and words, writing lyrics to country music songs can be an interesting task. What I have enjoyed doing with some students is to pair them or put them in small groups, in which a person who likes working with words is coming up with lyrics while the other person who enjoys playing around with music comes up with melodies that match the lyrics.

It is always fun to try and make your own recordings and compose your own songs.
