The other day I was at a supermarket and saw Easter eggs on the shelves! And then yesterday we started playing Easter songs with some students…. Is anyone else feeling like we just seamlessly move from one seasonal tradition to another?
For music lessons, seasonal traditions can really help with new materials and songs that can be played only that time of the year. What I found around Christmas time is that many students practiced way more when playing Christmas carols than they otherwise normally would. Working towards seasonal concerts can provide the needed motivation and boost for regular practice.
Luckily nowadays, there are many books for all seasonal traditions, such as Christmas and Easter, making it easy to mix up the content of the lessons and keep students motivated to learn and play.
We should, nevertheless, also enjoy the in-between times by playing some beautiful classical music, perhaps some funky jazz and catchy pop tunes!
