Jamming with students can be very fun and help build a stronger student-teacher relationship! Playing simple duets or jamming more freely with students can really help students see how they can play with more advanced players without feeling that they are not good enough!
I find that the most laughs during lessons happen when we are hamming with students. Although these lessons inevitably are less structured, students will still learn a great deal through playing with another person. Yesterday we did some jamming with ‘Time After Time’ with some students. We all played either the piano, guitar or ukulele or sang. It was a great way to engage all participants after the half-term break!
