Diary of a Music Teacher Day 5: Playing Music in Your Free Time

Do you ever find yourself playing music just for fun and for your own enjoyment in your free time? And I mean playing your main instrument just for yourself, without thinking ahead about lessons plans or students’ development?

When we spend so much time playing music with and for our students, many of us want to spend our free time doing something completely different. Although I listen to a lot of music in my free time and enjoy going to concerts, I spend very little time playing music on any instrument. I prefer doing yoga, gardening, going out on walks in nature, reading books or even watching films.

I guess that it is the same for everyone: whatever your work is and what you end up doing a lot is something that you might not choose to do in your free time. Do you have experiences on this?
