Carl Czerny, (1791 -1857) was an Austrian pianist, teacher and composer known for his educational works for the piano and his tireless desire to teach the piano.
Czerny studied piano with some great composers, such as Beethoven. He began teaching in Vienna at age 15. One of his most famous students was Liszt. He composed over 1,000 pieces for the piano.
Czerny’s lasting influence and greatest legacy were his piano studies that have greatly been esteemed by teachers for generations to come. These include: the School of Velocity, the School of Virtuosity and the School of the Left Hand. These graded exercises are still today being widely used.
For any piano players, these works are highly recommended and personally I found them very beneficial when learning the piano!
