SUITABLE BOOKS WHEN STARTING TO PLAY THE PIANO

Many new piano learners wonder which piano books are good ones to start their practice with. Nowadays there are plenty to choose from and most of them cover the basics in a comprehensive and coherent manner.

Nevertheless, there are two piano book series that NoteCorner would recommend for beginners. These are the Michael Aaron Piano Lessons series and the John Thompson Easiest Piano Course series. Both of these series have been used by teachers for numbers of years. They combine playing practice with theory and make the learning process more fun. They include fingers exercises, theory work sheets and simple pieces to play.

If you are interested in ordering books from either series, you can find details on the links below (or try Amazon or Ebay!):

  1. Hi Tiija,
You should check out Frances Clarke’s “Music Tree” series and Faber and Faber’s “Piano Adventure” Series. Both are updated and progressive approaches to beginning learning at the piano, particularly the reading and technical aspect. I’ve also used the Hal Leonard Series with success.
    Enjoy!
    Cynthia
